The change of heart is a reflection of changing social attitudes within the Conservative party, as well as parliamentary arithmetic. As many as 20 Tory MPs are thought to be in favour of retaining the ban, and some have signed up to a little-known group, Conservatives Against Fox Hunting. The group, whose slogan is “don’t run with the pack”, has set up a website to promote its cause.
