We co hosted our first Parliamentary breakfast briefing in the House Of Commons today. Six of the 22 Conservative MPs against repeal attended the meal and discussion around a large shared table.
Robbie Marsden the UK Director of IFAW and Brian May of Queen, the Founder of Save Me were our guest Speakers. Douglas Batchelor, the CEO of The League Against Cruel Sports and the Association Chairman of Esher and Walton Conservatives also contributed by speaking.
After the key speeches a positive discussion on the issue of supporting the Hunting Act followed.
The briefing started at 8.30 am and finished at 10.30 am.
The whole event was a success and follows on from our fringe breakfast briefing at the Conservative Conference in October where Dominic Rabb MP and Andrew Rosindell MP were our key Speakers.
We are delighted with the outcome of our event this morning in the House Of Commons and hope to further build on this success to help spread our message to help keep the ban on hunting wild mammals with dogs in place.
There is no public appetite for a return of outmoded illegal activities which less than 0.6% of the population are involved in. This indicates that 99% of people do not participate in blood sports. It is a minority activity and it’s return is supported by a minority of people only. A recent YouGov poll commissioned in October 2010 demonstrated that 77% of the population want to see the ban enforced.
Out of 650 MPs only 253 want to see the Hunting Act repealed.
We are pleased to see more and more Conservative MPs who represent the majority view on this issue and hope to encourage undecided and unknown Conservative MPs to reveal their stance and support the general view of the UK population which is against hunting with hounds.
