Conservative Anti Hunting Council Report to the Burns Enquiry

The Conservative party has a mistaken image of being pro hunting. This myth needs to be dispelled in 21st century Britain and the party to be properly recognised as having a majority mainstream view against hunting with hounds. About 1980 the Conservative Anti Hunt Council was formed in Devon and Somerset to campaign for a ban on hunting with hounds when the sport was still legal, In 2000 it was responsible for submitting a considerable detailed report for the case against such sports.

The Conservative Anti Hunt Council submitted a report to the Burns inquiry titled:

EVIDENCE TO COMMITTEE OF INQUIRY INTO HUNTING WITH DOGS

(CHAIRMAN: LORD BURNS) February, 2000

The Conservative Anti Hunt Council was formed some 20 years ago by leading members of the party to provide a forum for Conservatives opposed to hunting with hounds.

The organisation also stated in it’s report that:

WE BELIEVE THAT WHERE CULLING IS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY IT SHOULD BE CARRIED OUT BY THE MOST HUMANE METHOD, WHICH IS BY THE CORRECT GUN IN THE HANDS OF A SKILLED MARKSMAM
