CAFH at the House Of Commons Summer Reception held by The League Against Cruel Sports, 18th May 2011

We had  a great night at the House of Commons at The  League Against Cruel Sport’s Summer Reception on the 18th May 2011. We also popped into The House Of Lords  for twenty minutes on our way there. We spoke to Lords, MPs and other key people at the event, including the Directors of the RSPCA and IFAW all  united in their support for the ban on cruel sports.

The new hunting film by The League Against Cruel Sports was released and  the new Hunting Report which demonstrates the success of the Hunting Act 2004 and  prosecutions which out performs any other legislation to protect wildlife. The new film is very entertaining yet has a serious message at the end by John Cooper QC about the validity of the ban and why it needs to remain in place  to protect wildlife. The film compares the model of burglars seeking repeal from MPs in Westminster because  they claim the Theft Act is unenforcable. The minority of pro hunting supporters are seeking repeal of the ban because they claim that because some people  illegally  break the law- that of the Hunting Act- that  it should be repealed, It is illogical to repeal legislation because some people continue to flout laws .  Our theft Act is not always followed by some people yet we do not repeal it . This is the object of the film- to illustrate that there will always be people who will continue to break the law but they should not be rewarded with a repeal  of the flouted legislation simply because it infringes their rights to carry out activities that are illegal.
