Conservatives Against Fox Hunting will be speaking amongst other speakers from the Liberal Democrats and the Green Party.   Local representatives of the RSPCA will be attending . There is cross party support for the ban.

Organisers are encouraging as many people as possible in the region to show their opposition to the cruelty of hunting by attending the rally at 14.00 on Saturday February 19 at the Solent Lecture Theatre, Southampton Solent University Conference Centre. To reserve a place please contact Fraser Welsh in John Denham’s office at fraser@johndenham.org.uk or on 02380 33

John Denham MP said, “The supporters of hunting are mobilising in a bid to overturn the ban that we fought for years to introduce. We know the public want to see the ban protected, and we should organise hard and early to make sure we do that.”

Robbie Marsland, UK Director of IFAW, added, “We urge the people of Hampshire to turn out to show that they want to see British wildlife protected from the cruelty of hunting. The hunting ban was introduced because the majority of the UK public found the chasing and killing of animals for so-called sport abhorrent. We must do all we can to protect that ban.”

Speakers include Liberal Democrat County Councillor Peter Chegwyn, Labour MP for Southampton Test Alan Whitehead, Conservative Coucillor Fran Carpenter, Chris Platt a Conservative Association Chairman and Co Founder of Conservatives Against Fox Hunting and former Green Party Parliamentary candidate Chris Bluemel.

Douglas Batchelor, Chief Executive of the League Against Cruel Sports, said, “The public is resolute in their support for the Hunting Act. This event provides them with the opportunity to ensure their voice is heard and the Hunting Act remains in force for many years to come.”
